Resetting Your Internet Conenction

Sometimes a problem with your Internet connection can be resolved by resetting your internet equipment. You can reset your modem/and or router by following the instructions below.  Also, please find links to the most common Internet Service Providers for provider specific instructions:

Resetting Your Equipment
 

One-Piece Modem/Router Combo (Gateway) or Modem Only

To reboot your gateway or your standalone modem:

  1. Unplug the power cord from the gateway or modem and remove any batteries.
  2. Wait 60 seconds, and then reinsert any batteries and reconnect the power cable.
  3. Wait two minutes to ensure that the reset is complete. Your modem’s connection lights should be solid (not blinking).
  4. Check your internet connection to make sure it’s working.
Modem with Separate WiFi Router

To reboot your modem and your WiFi router:

  1. Unplug the power cord from the back of the modem and remove any batteries.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the WiFi router.
  3. Wait 60 seconds, and then reinsert any batteries and reconnect power to the modem.
  4. Allow at least two  minutes to ensure that the reset is complete. Your modem’s connection lights should be solid (not blinking).
  5. Reconnect the power to your WiFi router. Allow at least 2 minutes for your router to finish powering on.
  6. Check your internet connection to make sure it’s working.
